The Hormone–Breast Connection: Why Clean Deodorant Matters

The Hormone–Breast Connection: Why Clean Deodorant Matters
Breast Cancer Awareness header

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and while this time often brings with it powerful stories of resilience and care, it’s also a reminder to pause and reflect on something deeply personal: the choices we make every day.

One of the smallest yet most consistent choices? What we put under our arms.

At Little Seed Farm, we’re not here to promote fear or quick fixes. We believe in education, empowerment, and creating routines that nourish your body, your family, and the planet. That’s why this October, we’re focusing on the connection between deodorant and breast health—and why choosing clean ingredients matters.

What Are Endocrine Disruptors—and Why DO They Matter

Our bodies rely on hormones to stay in balance. Hormones regulate energy, growth, mood, sleep, and reproduction. But certain chemicals in everyday products—including deodorants, lotions, and cosmetics—can interfere with that balance.

These are called endocrine disruptors, and research suggests their accumulation over time may contribute to long-term health concerns, including hormone-driven cancers such as breast cancer. For example, the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) reports that animal and human studies show links between endocrine disruptors like parabens and phthalates and hormone-sensitive tumor growth (NIEHS, 2024). The National Cancer Institute also notes that chemicals which mimic hormones, including those found in personal care products, are an area of ongoing study related to breast cancer risk (NCI, 2023).

Some of the most common endocrine disruptors in personal care products include:

These substances can be absorbed through the skin, inhaled, or ingested, creating daily exposures over years of consistent use.

Why Deodorant in Particular?

When considering swaps, deodorant is one of the most impactful starting places:

  • It’s applied every day, often multiple times.
  • It goes directly onto thin, sensitive skin located near lymph nodes and breast tissue.
  • It represents long-term, consistent, and cumulative exposure.

According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG), deodorants and antiperspirants are among the most frequently used personal care products containing potential endocrine disruptors (EWG Skin Deep Database, 2024).

By choosing a cleaner option here, you can reduce your body’s daily contact with unnecessary chemicals in a very practical way.

Our Approach at Little Seed Farm

We created Little Seed Farm with one mission at its heart: products that care for your body, your health, and the earth in equal measure.

  • No parabens. No phthalates. No synthetic fragrance. Ever.
  • Aluminum-free deodorant that works, without compromise.
  • Simple, nourishing formulas with coconut oil, arrowroot, and essential oils to support your skin naturally.

For us, it’s not just about what’s excluded—it’s about what’s included. Every ingredient is chosen with care, rooted in the principle that self-care should also mean body-care.

How You Can Help This October

When you choose a jar of Little Seed Farm Deodorant this month, you’re not just boosting your own well-being—you’re also providing support to patients in active breast cancer treatment.

For every jar sold in October, we’ll donate $1 directly to The Pink Fund, which provides financial assistance to breast cancer patients and their families.

Last year, with your support, we donated over $25,000. With your help again, we know we can reach—and surpass—that milestone.

We can’t control everything when it comes to cancer, and that can feel overwhelming. But what we can do is focus on the choices available to us, the ones that align with our health and our values.

So here’s our invitation to you this October:

  • Read your labels.
  • Swap where it feels possible.
  • Support causes that support others.

Small actions add up. Small actions matter. And together, those actions are helping us stand with breast cancer thrivers everywhere.
