New Farmstead Goodies & A Sneak Peek

We're very excited to share some new farmstead goodies being released in our Shop today! After our first release and a successful holiday season with our original Farmstead Milk Soap collection of Milk, Oat, and Lavender, we decided to expand our horizons with 4 new soaps for Valentine's day. We thought it could be the perfect time to play around with some fun ideas we'd be having (like local beer in soap), so for a few months we locked ourselves in the "soap cave". We experimented and tested (on ourselves and friends - no animal testing here!) until we emerged with these...

Farming as Reality, or Sweetbreads has a Chicken on Her Head

Nevat playing in the leaf pile, one of many each day's wonderful moments I was on the phone with my Mom recently, just recounting the tales of the day and so-forth, pretty typical conversation. As I was remembering our day it occurred to me that farming is now our reality...

The End of the Guinea Mobile

The Guinea Mobile in its day of glory You may remember back in the summer when we first rolled the guinea mobile out to pasture. With 20+ guineas onboard it was quite a ruckus. After our "House Guineas" amazed us with their tick destroying abilities we decided to see if...

Valentine Goats

If you haven't noticed, we're a bit obsessed with our farm animals here at Little Seed. They're not just animals to us - they're our herd! They feed us, they make us laugh (and cry), they're our close companions, and the first thing we think about when we wake up....

Unsolicited Farm Drop-Ins

Don't mind me, just taking a stroll through your farm One of our blog-friends, Meg Paska, over at Brooklyn Homesteader recently opined on an interesting topic. It's something I had been meaning to post about, but kept forgetting. The topic is Unsolicited Farm Drop-Ins. People that stop by the farm randomly...

Rotationally Grazing Pigs

You've probably noticed that we're big fans of rotational grazing. The goats, the cows, and now the pigs are all rotated around our property inside their own electric fences. While gaining in popularity, this method of livestock management is very uncommon. Yet it makes a lot of sense, if you...

"Tomorrow", An Old Time Recipe For New Year's Leftovers

We had a little get together yesterday to celebrate the New Year. We had such a great time showing the farm to new friends and old and feasting on traditional southern New Years fare. We cooked up a storm, our friends did the same, and before long the kitchen was...

The Year of the Farm - A Recap of 2012

Our most popular Facebook photo, little Joplin! 2012 was an incredible year for us. One blog post can't do the whole thing justice, but I'll take a stab at a quick summary.
